The fight against hospital infections is the real challenge of the future. Covid-19 has reminded the world of the serious risk factors associated with the spread of viruses. However, before the Pandemic, the situation related to the fight against multi-resistant pathogens was not over.

In the last decade, substantial scientific evidence has also shown that surface contamination around hospital units plays a key role in the transmission of microorganisms such as Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA), Vancomycin-Resistant Enterococci (VRE), Clostridium Difficile, Acinetobacter Baumanii, Norovirus, Klebsiella Pneumoniae, Mycobacterium Tuberculosis (TB).

Since 2010, various publications have shown how inadequately sanitized and disinfected the surfaces around the patient are. Subsequent investigations show that the highest risk of transmission of microorganisms with multi-resistance to antibiotics in patients, are housed in beds previously occupied by compromised patients.

Other studies show that when patient unit surfaces are manually disinfected with chemicals, less than 50% are adequately disinfected. There is also evidence of inadequate cleaning of electromedical equipment by the nursing staff.

HOSPITAL INFECTIONS

They are infections that occur during hospitalization or even after discharge, ones that were not present when the patient entered the facility: neither clinically manifested, nor incubated.

To qualify as a “nosocomial or hospital acquired infection,” the patient must have been admitted for a cause other than an infection and have no signs of an incubated infectious disease. These infections can occur 48 hours after hospitalization, 3 days after discharge or even up to 30 days after an operation.

These infections usually affect the urinary tract, surgical wounds, venous access or lungs, depending on the medical procedure the patient undergoes: urinary tract infection (by bladder-inserted catheters); surgical wounds (from germs in the skin, the surgical instruments or through the air); venous accesses (from IV administrations, needle entry is a common way to invade the bloodstream); pneumonias (from artificial respirators that usually are used in intensive care units).

These infections are caused by easily transmitted pathogens. Keep in mind that hospitalized patients are often immunocompromised and therefore more susceptible than normal to infection. Another crucial element to consider is the emergence of bacterial strains resistant to antibiotics, given the widespread use of these drugs for prophylactic or therapeutic purposes.

AMIL Care FOR HOSPITAL INFECTIONS

Our team was ahead of its time in realizing that the disinfection methods in use were not adequate. In this way we deepen our knowledge in conjunction with the constant collaboration of professionals in the relevant fields, as well as the continuous scientific research of new technologies in order to create the optimal medical device for high-level disinfection. The result was our patented micro-nebulizer Medibios which is the basis of Medisystem.

MEDISYSTEM

Medibios: is a Class I Medical Device with (CE marking and FDA registered). It allows high level disinfection cycles with “No-Touch” technology, together with validated protocols, mainly in critical areas and on the main multi-resistant pathogens, treat areas from 10 to 10,000 m3 (350 to 350,000 ft3).

Protocol settings are made through a touchscreen display. The device can connect to preset sensors, allowing the recognition of the room and the inserted program. Each cycle performed generates a report in PDF format, which can be saved on a USB pen drive and printed.

AMIL Care ECO-FRIENDLY CHEMICAL SOLUTION

EVOLYSE: HYDROGEN PEROXIDE + SILVER SALTS

The decision was made to focus on hydrogen peroxide, a chemical widely used in disinfection. Another advantage of H2O2 is its effectiveness on microorganisms of all kinds: bacteria, viruses, spores, fungi, TB and biofilms. It is thanks to the use of hydrogen peroxide as an active ingredient combined with silver salts and the automated micro-nebulization of Medibios, that Medisystem has proven to be effective in preventing and fighting hospital infections.

MICRONEBULIZATION

Micro-nebulization is the reduction of the compound into particles (< 1 to 5 microns). Medibios has the ability to saturate the most confined and difficult to access areas, also effective on smooth and porous surfaces, thus eliminating pathogens by oxidizing their cell membranes, then hydrogen peroxide dissolves in water and oxygen, two absolutely harmless elements. The product complies with the most stringent standards such as electromagnetic compatibility and electrical safety. The result is simple and safe (non-corrosive/no residue).

WHY MEDISYSTEM IS THE ANSWER?

Based on the experience gained, AMIL Care has understood that research and respect for regulations must go hand in hand with technology to express itself effectively. For this reason, the concept to diffuse liquid substances has been redesigned from scratch following recognized parameters to offer replicable and certifiable standards of effectiveness in all conditions.

For all these reasons mentioned, in times of great confusion and health crisis, it is essential to rely on those like AMIL Care who give credit to science and endorse their products with certified efficacy studies.
